Hello, I am Zayn

Hi, I’m Zayn Zheng — a software and data engineer with around 12 years of experience building systems where data meets product.

What I do

My day-to-day work revolves around Python, SQL, and data architecture. I’ve spent most of my career designing pipelines, modeling data, and building backend systems that quietly keep things running. I enjoy the craft of making complex systems simple and maintainable.

More recently I’ve been pushing into new territory — building mobile-friendly web apps, experimenting with AI tooling, and exploring the edges of what a small team (or one person) can ship quickly.

What I’m building

Right now I have two projects in flight:

  • This site — a lightweight personal space for writing and self-introduction, hosted on Cloudflare Pages.
  • A personal expense tracker — a mobile-first PWA that syncs with Google Sheets, supports custom categories, and lets family members share bills. Inspired by apps like 鲨鱼记账 but built exactly the way I want it.

Both projects are about scratching my own itch and learning something real along the way.

Why I’m writing

I’ve accumulated a lot of hard-won knowledge over the years — about building systems, picking tools, shipping things fast, and learning in public. Writing is how I organize that knowledge and give it somewhere to live.

I’ll write about:

  • Data engineering patterns and practical Python
  • Building personal tools and side projects
  • Lessons from shipping things with limited time

If any of that sounds useful, stick around. I’ll be posting when I have something worth saying.
